An estimate done by the World Health Organization (WHO) reveals that there are more than 500 million people who have poor vision due to uncorrected refractive errors. The majority of these people merely lack a spectacle to provide them good vision. Some direct consequence of this is blindness, poverty and people failing to get good education.
Currently, there are approximately 45 million blind people and 135 million people with poor vision as a result of various eye defects. To alleviate this situation, the WHO started the worldwide ophthalmic program Vision 20/20 with the motto “The Right to Sight“. This program’s goal is that, for most of the world, by 2020 poor vision or unnecessary blindness due to lack of spectacles will be eliminated. U-specs are a pair of universal glasses, with lenses of which the power can be adjusted. They become an important contribution to solve the worldwide problem of poor vision resulting from uncorrected refractive errors. The issue |
